The Shropshire Star’s Toby Neal is on the list for daily paper columnist of the year, the Wolves book On Our Way Back is in the final six for supplement of the year and former Express & Star journalist Alex Ross, now at the Western Daily Express, could take daily reporter of the year.

The Express & Star is a finalist for daily newspaper of the year for titles with circulations of 15,000 and above, where it is up against the Belfast Telegraph, Eastern Daily Press, Hull Daily Mail, Manchester Evening News, Sunday Life, The Press and Journal and the Yorkshire Post.

Editor-in-chief Martin Wright said: “It’s always pleasing to see the excellent work of the editorial team recognised and I would like to pass on my sincere congratulations to all involved.

“Hopefully we will return with some awards on May 17, but being shortlisted is in itself a great achievement and everyone can feel rightly proud of their contribution.”

The winners will be announced at a lunchtime ceremony to be held in London on Friday 17 May.
